Status page for the Mauna Kea CONCAM:
If for some reason this CONCAM is not functioning normally
and the reason is not given below, please contact either
Local Mauna Kea contact: Mac Cooper at tcooper@sma.hawaii.edu.nospam,
CONCAM central contact: Dave Torrey at tj@mtu.edu.nospam .
Please be sure to remove the ".nospam" from the end of the email address.
2004 March 7: The continued outage for the Mauna Kea CONCAM is being caused by events specific to the mountain and not to the CONCAM itself. Snow and a continuing power outage to the SMA roof continue. We do hope to be back online soon.
2004 March 1: A power outage in Mauna Kea shuts down CONCAM.
2004 Febuary 19: The fish-eye lens failed, probably due to water. A new lens was sent.
2004 January 1: A hard Drive failure at the server, probably due to a power outage at MTU. The hard drive got back to life on August 8th.
2003 November: Massive changes in the control software and the server software:
All images (light, background, annotated jpg, non-annotated jpg, thumbnail) are processed at the client system using "wolf", and copied to the server. The server is now only copying the files to the directories and generates the movies.
Star labeling was added to the annotated jpgs.
Photometry ascii files are generated at the remote machine and copied to the server via scp.
2002 August 23: The MK laptop has been replaced/upgraded. We are trying to re-establish contact and run the latest suite of control programs. These programs are running on the Canary Island CONCAM and (mostly) now running on the Kitt Peak CONCAM. Unfortunately, it may be a few days until routine operations are restored.
2002 July 30: We have been having some problems with the laptop. For one it has problems rebooting after power outages. We plan to replace the laptop sometime during August. We have been able to bring the old laptop back up and so the MK CONCAM is back online.
2002 June 24: Another planned power outage at Michigan Tech. will have the system go down for a day between June 25 and June 26. We hope to be able to bring back the systems by noon (EDT) on June 26.
2002 June 17: Everything seems to be working normally. The system will probably go down for a few hours on the morning of June 18, due to a planned power outage at Michigan Tech.
2002 April 11: There now appears to be a problem with connecting to the mk laptop. It appears to be alive but won't let us talk with it. We are investigating the problem and apologize for the delay.
2002 April 3: We have lost normal contact with the laptop, due to some problems with the sma routers. Personnel at the summit and in Hilo are working on the case, and status should be normalized soon.
2002 March 8: Recently, the summit experienced some cases of hacking, due to which they have upgraded their security firewall. This has caused a break in the connections with CONCAM. We are still working towards restoring connection and hopefully beginning next week, we should be back to normal operations.
2002 March 5: SMA has been reconfiguring their security firewalls. It may take a couple more days for CONCAM to be up and running on the network again. Please bear with us.
2002 January 27: Snow appears to be covering the lens for the last two nights. We expect that this snow will melt during the day and normal operations will continue soon. - RJN
2001 December 5: Everything appears normal.
